Pockie Pirates is an unusual new MMORPG that has anime-style graphics and a story straight out of the popular anime “One Piece.” The open beta launched on July 4, 2012 and is still ongoing as of August. In Pockie Pirates, players start off as a young captain who dreams of becoming the famous Pirate King. The game mechanics are unique – for example, each character has his or her own harbor where they can fish and launch trade ships to earn silver. Crew members can be recruited and leveled up in exciting pirate warship battles.
Blacklight: Retribution – MMO Shooter Released on April 3, 2012
After five months of closed and open beta testing, Blacklight: Retribution is due for official release on the 3rd of April, 2012. Blacklight Retribution is one of the most graphically stunning free-to-play online games today. It features cutting edge visuals and extensive customization options. This MMO first person shooter (MMOFPS) game offers players a high quality multiplayer experience complete with fast-paced action-packed battles, futuristic maps, and a wide variety of weapons and gear. With endless customization options, players can customize everything about a weapon, from its barrel, to ammo types, stocks, muzzles, optics, colors and even weapon tags. Unique tools like the Hyper Reality Visor (HRV) (basically a sight hack that everyone can use) allow gamers to see enemy locations, team movements, and primary objectives to jump right into the fight. If the name of this shooter seems familiar that is because it is the sequel to the bestselling Blacklight: Tango Down game.
Trends in New MMORPG Games 2012
Free to Play Is Here to Stay
Believe it or not, the writing on the wall is becoming clearer each day; free to play is going to supersede the long established P2P price models. Even industry bigwigs are beginning to face to the reality that free online MMORPG will soon be the predominant model. The New Open Beta MMORPG 2012 List can probably speak for itself and there’s a huge possibility that gamers will see a lot more AAA games leaning towards that business trend.
Multi-Platform and Mobile MMORPGs
If you really look closely, there aren’t too many multi-platform MMORPGs around. Except for one which is purportedly soon to launch for Mac, PC, Facebook and iPad, most games aren’t as flexible. However, 2012 looks like the year when game developers are gearing towards releasing new titles that work on all platforms. Mobile gaming, on the other hand, seems to be on the rise with the increasing number of smartphones, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Androids and other mobile gadget owners actively seeking new titles to play. You can bet that game developers will be scuttling to come up with and include both multi-platform and mobile games on the New Open Beta MMORPG 2012 List. It might take some time before you can see a mobile MMORPG that can capably compete with PC releases but they’ll definitely become more enhanced.
More New Games
Apparently, this is great news for dyed-in-the-wool MMORPG fans and players. There are several upcoming games that are being currently developed and are more likely to make it to the New Open Beta MMORPG 2012 List with some of them having already announced a 2012 release date. With the anticipated new titles, gamers are sure to have lots more options in terms of genres and different settings.
