The biggest browser MMORPG in the world is about to get even bigger.
Jagex has announced the official launch date for RuneScape 3, the latest entry in the long-running browser-based MMORPG series. The game will launch on July 22, 2013.
The new RuneScape runs on a proprietary HTML5 game engine and will no longer require a Java plugin to play. Players can expect improved graphics, longer draw distances, an upgraded camera system and better audio.
“We received fantastic praise from our passionate RuneScape community when we first revealed the development of RuneScape 3, so we’re thrilled to be able to confirm the 22 July launch date for the most significant update in the game’s history,” said RuneScape 3 Executive Producer Phil Mansell. “Our pioneering use of HTML 5 technology continues to place us at the forefront of browser-based gaming innovation, and will result in a truly amazing gaming experience for players.”
The world of Gielinor will enter its sixth age with the launch of RuneScape 3. Jagex claims that in RuneScape 3 players will be able to, for the first time, “directly shape” the future of Gielinor, its inhabitants and scenery.
