First on my list this week is a post over on the Guild Wars 2 Reddit, discussing conditions. As an engineer and one focused heavily on conditions, I really feel for the thread starter. The best part of the entire article is the first reply from Beetlejuice who makes a point I’ve been screaming about since Beta.
Condition damage (and crit damage but for entirely different reasons) should have never existed as itemization stats. Instead condition damage should have scaled with power. This way people would not be locked into either condition damage or direct damage builds without completely changing equipment.
Never a truer word spoken.
Next on the list and still on Reddit, is quite possibly the funniest post I’ve ever read.
As you’ve probably noticed, I’m not too happy about Fractals. In fact, they go against everything ArenaNet swore Guild Wars 2 wouldn’t be. Instead, I now find myself (without a LFG tool) standing about in Lions Arch, asking for parties, to run dungeons over and over again for a chance of drops. These people are as annoyed as me at the confirmation of Fractal based weapons.
The “state” of Guild Wars 2 is regularly discussed over on the official forums (unsurprisingly) and while I’ve no doubt the game is still a huge success, I have noticed after revisiting the lower level zones to obtain 100% world completion that there is absolutely no one about. I’ve encountered one other low level player in the Charr starting zone who was struggling with a skill point. This isn’t necessarily indicative of a declining population, but it doesn’t send a good message to those joining Guild Wars 2 for the first time.
Distilled Will makes a great point about the potential of Fractals and I agree with him entirely. This is ArenaNet’s opportunity to have some fun, carving content that’s original and free from lore constraints. However, the speed at which this content was delivered shows in the sheer number of flaws and ill thought out design.
I haven’t linked any Fan Fiction for quite some time, and rather than link individual pieces I thought it best to simply send you in the direction of Chronicles of Tyria, whom have some wonderful stories.
Lastly, what is your opinion on “gear checks”? The prospect of it entering Guild Wars 2 sends shivers down my spine.
