Lego Legends of Chima: Speedorz is a fun racing game where the player is an animal driver to control special shiny vehicles, follow the track crawling across desert, mountains and towns to collect studs and special blue balls on the road in a bid to reach the destination in the shortest time possible. The game offers three racing types, among which only The Tribal Cup is available for now. In The Tribal Cup, players should finish the race within a limited time in order to claim rewards and unlock new gear and vehicles in the store.
The controls are much too easy in Speedorz. Players don’t have to tap or hold anywhere to get the vehicle started. In fact, the starting and moving is done by the game itself. Players only tap the left or right directional keys or speed up the vehicle when necessary. The game also automatically puts vehicles back to the main track whenever players hit something and need to adjust the directions.
But Speedorz is still challenging despite of its easy controls. For one thing, it is always necessary to turn the directions or speed up since there are so many studs and blue balls as well as rocks and other obstacles on the road, and the automatic navigating isn’t of much help on that front. Players sometimes have to boost the car, climb up a slope, and hit something in the air in order to claim the special blue balls or to go through ring structures to claim as many studs as possible. On the other hand, the game controls are so fluent and flexible that it is so easy to miss many studs or simply run into walls or rocks when you are only trying to turn the directions.
Speedorz focuses on the item collecting experience while discarding some classic contents in racing titles. For instance, the simplified interface guarantees simple controls but is lacking in a mini map and therefore players have to figure out the way themselves without knowing when or where the race will be finished.
The game can sometimes be amusing and humorous. For example, whenever one reaches the destination, he or she bumps against an NPC’s car and will hit or get hit, depending on how fast the player has completed the race. If players have done the competition within a set period of time, they will see their avatar performing the robot dancing moves.
Speedorz has mixed a fluent and intuitive speed racing experience with fun elements and turns out to be a stunningly appealing title that is both exciting and relaxing at the same time.
